The Plateau State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (PLASCHEMA) has officially commenced the distribution of Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF) cards to over 4,500 beneficiaries across the 20 electoral wards of Shendam Local Government Area, marking a major milestone in healthcare access for residents of the Southern Zone of Plateau State.
The beneficiaries were enrolled during the registration exercise held between November 10 and 14, 2025, and the commencement of card distribution has triggered excitement and appreciation among residents, many of whom described the initiative as a welcome relief for the less privileged.
The BHCPF scheme is designed to provide affordable and quality healthcare services to vulnerable and underserved populations, reducing the financial burden of medical expenses and promoting access to essential health services.
Under the scheme, beneficiaries will have access to free medical consultations, antenatal and postnatal care, safe delivery services, child immunization, family planning, treatment of common illnesses such as malaria, typhoid, and respiratory infections, laboratory investigations, essential drugs, child healthcare services, health education, and referral services for specialized medical attention.
Speaking on the development, the Shendam Team/Zonal Lead of PLASCHEMA, Joël Sunday, urged all Officers In Charge of BHCPF facilities to mobilise all enrolled beneficiaries to promptly visit their chosen healthcare facilities to collect their BHCPF cards and begin enjoying the numerous healthcare benefits attached to the programme.
He also expressed profound appreciation to the Director General of PLASCHEMA, Dr. Kwande Dawal Humphrey, for what he described as his foresight, strategic leadership, and unwavering commitment to ensuring healthcare inclusiveness across Plateau State.
He noted that under Dr. Kwande’s leadership, PLASCHEMA has continued to make significant strides towards achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC), ensuring that quality healthcare becomes accessible to every citizen, especially those at the grassroots.
Also, residents of Shendam have commended the agency’s leadership and all stakeholders involved in the successful enrollment and commencement of card distribution, describing the programme as a major intervention that will improve maternal and child health, strengthen preventive healthcare, and enhance the overall wellbeing of families in the area.
The commencement of BHCPF card distribution in Shendam is being seen as another bold move toward building a healthier Shendam LGA, Plateau South, the entire Plateau State and advancing the vision of Universal-Healthcare for all citizens.
